The Difference between an Addiction and a Compulsion

There are two mainly differences between an addiction and a compulsion.

The first one mainly distinction between an addiction and a compulsion is the experience of pleasure. When people who have addictions feel uncomfortable, the desire to use the substance or engage in the behavior is based on the expectation that it will be pleasurable. But some who has a compulsion may not have any pleasure from the behavior he carried out. Often, it is a way of dealing with the obsessive part of the disorder, resulting in a feeling of relief.

The other mainly distinction between an addiction and a compulsion has to do with the person’s awareness of reality. When people have obsessive-compulsive disorder, they often aware that they worried is not real, only to do that to relieve their anxiety. But the people who have addictions don’t know what they are doing, and don’t care about anything, only they can feel that they are just having a good time, they denies that his use or behavior is a problem, until a serious thing happen, they just can face the reality of their addiction.
